Screening & Discussion of "No Sanctuary"

Saturday, June 20, 2015 - 3:00pm

Where: Monroe County Public Library, 303 E. Kirkwood, downtown Bloomington.

On June 20th--World Refugee Day--we will be screening “No Sanctuary: Big Business and Family Detention,” at 3 pm in room 1B & 1C at the Monroe County Public Library followed by a brief discussion about family detention policies in the United States.

“[Immigration detention] shatters families and traumatizes children. As a system of mass incarceration — particularly of women and children fleeing persecution in Central America — it is immoral." - NY Times Editorial Board

Family detention is a major crisis of our time, in which our country's reliance on private corporations to run prisons directly corresponds with our government's detention of refugees, potentially in violation of international human rights laws.

We hope this will catalyze an important discussion about how we can cultivate care for the oppressed and marginalized not only far away but also in our local communities.
