Local Effects of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare)

A discussion of the Affordable Care Act and its effects on local residents will take place at the First United Church in Bloomington.

The issue-focused discussion will address formerly proposed changes to Medicaid under the American Health Care Act, the Republican bill that was pulled before a vote on March 24.

The event is sponsored by several faith-based organizations and nonpartisan groups.

Hoosiers for a Commonsense Health Plan will view the new documentary film, “Fix-It: Healthcare at the Tipping Point,” at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 9 at St. Mark’s Methodist Church, 100 Ind. 45/46 Bypass, Meeting Room 8. There is ample parking. This new documentary film reaches across the political and ideological divide to expand support for major healthcare reform.

Screening, Discussion of "The American Nurse"

Carolyn Jones, a documentary filmmaker and photographer, will speak at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater in downtown Bloomington. Her documentary “The American Nurse” will screen at 5:15 p.m.

Both parts of the Indiana University Media School Speaker Series event are free and open to the public. Jones is the last speaker in the fall series.

The documentary follows five nurses working throughout the country and addresses national health care. Jones also wrote and took photos for her book with the same name.

Rally for Medicaid Expansion

On Tuesday January 7 from 8:30 to 12:30 there will be a
rally at the Statehouse in Indianapolis for expanding Medicaid in
Indiana. Two state-wide organizations - Hoosiers for a Commonsense
Health Plan, Cover Indiana, and NASW Indiana (the state organization of social workers). During the
rally, activists will be contacting their elected representatives in
the Indiana Statehouse, 200 W. Washington St., downtown Indianapolis.
