Workshop: Labor Models of Organizing and Resistance

in conjunction with "Inaugurate the Revolution"

3:45-4:45 PM Friday, January 20, 2017

Monroe County Public Library Room 1C

Join Dr. Joe Varga and members of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) for a discussion of forms of worker organizing and resistance both inside and outside the official union structure. We will discuss the history of labor struggle in the U.S., including the founding of the IWW in 1905, and the current state of organizing under neoliberalism. We will focus on both traditional forms of workplace organizing, in comparison to more radical ideas, such as the General Defense Committees organized by the IWW. Ultimately, the purpose of the workshop is to formulate ideas on how best to organize workers in a hostile legal and economic environment.
