A screening of Go Public, a documentary film6:30-8:30 p.m., Thursday, August 18Monroe County Public Library, 303 E. Kirkwood AveHosted by Indiana Coalition for Public Education - Monroe County + South-Central indiana  In 2012, many people who worked and studied in the public schools of Pasadena, California, made their lives available for a large project: the portrait of one day in the life of an American school district.  Go Public is remarkable for what it does not contain. There are no outside experts consulted in this movie, no voice-over narration, no soundtrack other than the sounds that were recorded by the camera crews. Fifty filmmakers followed fifty people—janitors, students, teachers, and the superintendent—on a spring day that culminated in a school board meeting. What emerges is not a tidy narrative, but a layered and compelling portrait of the complicated work of serving a racially integrated population of children from families across the spectrums of need, privilege, and ability.

The screening will be followed by a short discussion that will give viewers a chance to air their responses to the film.
