Rally for Medicaid Expansion

Tuesday, January 7, 2014 - 8:30am

On Tuesday January 7 from 8:30 to 12:30 there will be a
rally at the Statehouse in Indianapolis for expanding Medicaid in
Indiana. Two state-wide organizations - Hoosiers for a Commonsense
Health Plan, Cover Indiana, and NASW Indiana (the state organization of social workers). During the
rally, activists will be contacting their elected representatives in
the Indiana Statehouse, 200 W. Washington St., downtown Indianapolis.

For some Hoosiers, their incomes are too high to qualify for Indiana’s traditional Medicaid buttoo low to qualify for subsidies on the ACA exchange. So they are left out. Expansion of Medicaid is essential for funding hospitals, particularly in rural areas. Expansion of Medicaid is 100% covered by federal funds in the first 3 years and then 90% thereafter. If Indiana does not expand coverage, Hoosiers’federal tax dollars will go to states that do. Tentative schedule8:30 am 9:00 am - Sign In, Pick up Talking Points, Literature 9:30 am - Speakers/Rally 10:00 am - Q & A, Get Ready for Meetings with Legislators 11:45 am - Office Visits with Legislators 12:30pm - Speakers/Rally/Wrap up/Action Plan Bring your colleagues, friends, and family!.Make appointments today for the morning of January 7th. Find your own senators and representatives here: Iga.in.gov/information/about_contact/ or call Indiana House of Representatives (800) 383-9842 and Indiana State Senate (800) 382-6467. Tell your story and why you favor expansion ofhealth coverage.
